Q: I reviewed the wholesale prices and they are not much lower than what you are selling them for on your website. If you are looking for more dealers are you going to raise your website rates to MSRP? If not, I would have to always be competing with your pricing. 

A: Our goal is to offer affordable products to our retail customers. We are unable to raise our retail prices just to create a sizable profit margin for potential dealers. That would be unfair to regular retail customers who are looking for affordable boating, and therefore will not go in line with our current sales model. It should be noted however, that our web site retail prices are Internet only prices. Any local sales from our dealers do not have to follow our Internet pricing strategy simply because Internet prices are always lower then local store retail prices. However, additional freight charges and consecutive delays in delivery due to shipping should also be taken into consideration. When looking at our Internet retail prices, shipping charges should always be added to establish the correct MSRP. It is our opinion, that in most cases, local customers would rather buy from a local dealer then ordering over the Internet and waiting for item to arrive, if the local sale price is equal to or even slightly higher then our current web site sale price with shipping charges added.

Furthermore, we suggest the following strategy to significantly increase profit margins. Because, not all customers are Internet savvy enough to immediately jump on-line and start looking for comparable sales, it is suggested to add additional profit margins, well above our current Internet prices. Then make available a competitive pricing match policy with a 14 day timeframe. If, in the unlikely event that a customer finds a lower Internet price, the final sale price can be adjusted or credited for a reasonable amount to match our Internet pricing including shipping charges. That is a standard retail practice successfully employed by many companies across all business spectrums.

Manufacturing Information

Inflatable boats are hand sealed at the seams for perfect seaming. This is the most expensive and reliable method used today. For maximum strength and durability, each seam is strengthened with four layers of bonded fabric.
Only the highest quality materials are used to produce Saturn boats. Each boat is made from 1,100 DTEX PLASTOMER PVC fabrics with a polyester support having excellent resistance to tearing, tension and breaking. The construction is 5-layers thick, with the outer layer protecting the boat against UV rays, ozone & abrasion and inner layers providing perfect strength & adhesion.

High Pressure Air Deck Flooring

Inflatable boats utilize a High Pressure Air Deck Floor system, which is noted for its strength and stability once inflated. When deflated it enables the whole boat to be rolled-up without removing any floor boards just like a slatted inflatable boat, but still has the strength of a plywood floor boat. This is the latest technology in Inflatable boat flooring.

The inside of the air deck is a "double-wall" or "drop-stitch" fabric. Once inflated, thousands of hair-like threads stand on end to give the floor strength. The two airtight layers of reinforced PVC coated fabric are fixed about 50mm apart by a large quantity of threads. After the valve is closed airtight it becomes very hard and strong when inflated.

Once deflated it is very easy to roll-up for storage. The extremely rigid, lightweight hull makes for excellent performance. Inflatables also offer wood and aluminum flooring as an option on some models to meet certain customer's requirements.

The most popular Inflatable boat model to date is the 11' Saturn SD330. Also, since its release, the 12' KaBoat SK396 has proven quite popular in the RV and motor home market.

In all cases these products have sold faster than we have been able to import them, causing us to increase shipment sizes significantly to meet demand.

BUSINESS IDEA #1: Inflatable Boat Dealer.

Business Plan:

Order 10 inflatable boats rafts or kayaks at wholesale prices at Lease a 5'x5' unit at the local self-storage facility close to your house. Buy a used Jet Ski trailer on, and paint it with bright colors. Buy a FOR SALE banner and 250 post-card size flyers at Put the inflated boat on the trailer, and mount the FOR SALE banner above. Attach a “TAKE ONE” plastic box so that anyone can easily get sales flyer. Tow the trailer with inflatable boat and banner installed to places where potential customers may gather, such as shopping malls, fishing piers, lakes, rivers, etc. Park car with a trailer where people go fishing or camping and can see it. Whoever's interested in the boat, will pull a flyer from the TAKE ONE box, read all about the boat, specs, price, and when ready to order, will call your cell phone number printed on that flyer. You can meet the customer at the self-storage unit or deliver to his house. Payments can be taken in the form of cash, money order or check. BUSINESS IDEA #2: Inflatable Boats, Kayaks and Paddle Boards Rental. Kayak Rental Inflatable Kayak Rental Business.

Business Plan:

Find an appropriate place next to the campground, local river, lake, bay or ocean beach where potential customers may gather and where there is easy access from your car to the water's edge. Research if approval or permit from the local municipality or park for opening a rental concession is needed. Buy several boats, kayaks and paddle boards to start your rental fleet. Order “RENT ME - $20/HR” vinyl banners or $70 for feather sign, and 250 post-card size flyers at A minivan or pickup truck is recommended to transport bags with deflated boats or kayaks closer to the water, but a used cargo trailer will work just as good. On a weekend or sunny day, bring boats and kayaks to the water's edge; inflate one of each model with a 12V electric pump. Place a RENT ME sign next to each boat. You will inflate more boats per rental demand. Charge $20/rental, make sure customers sign RELEASE OF LIABILITY form and you will provide PFD to each customer to comply with safety regulations. BUSINESS IDEA #3: Single Agency, Social Club or Workout Boot Camp.

Buy several inflatable boats or rafts or kayaks.

Place ads in local classifieds, and; also leave flyers in local diners, pubs and bars. Advertisements should state that on a particular date in a particular place, there will be gathering of local singles or may be workout boot camp, for people that would like to participate in an active lifestyle and get to know each other. Request potential participants to sign up for the event via e-mail. Once you have enough participants, email everyone and confirm they will be there. Bring several inflatable boats or kayaks to the meeting place, which should be close to the water, and organize participants to paddle kayaks or row their boats to a remote/romantic location where people can get to know each other, socialize, etc. Nothing brings people together like an active lifestyle and wilderness adventure. Once you have some permanent number of participants, and word of mouth about your social enterprise begins to spread, you may start charging some set membership fees, similar to a gym. If you properly organize these events and pay close attention to details, more and more people would want to participate. Not only will you get plenty of new friends, but you will most likely compliment your monthly income with steady membership fees. The trick here is that many people want to get outdoors and into an active lifestyle, such as kayaking, boating or rafting. Most people don't want to do it by themselves, and would greatly appreciate group activities if such offers were properly arranged. The boot camp variation of the above project would require participants to carry inflated boats/kayaks for a set distance along the beach, then row or paddle in incremental routes to increase endurance and stamina.

MNBoats is constantly working on improvements of quality of Saturn inflatable products. Each Saturn inflatable boat, river raft and kayak is left inflated at the factory for at least 48 hours and visually inspected for defects in workmanship and/or air leaks before packing into shipping boxes. So far, our quality level exceeds or matches that of well known high priced brands available on the market. Saturn defect ratio level is well below 1%, and our overall product customer satisfaction has reached 99.8% in a last 5 years. However, no manufactured product in existence is 100% defect free and/or uncompromisingly flawless. There are 4 case scenarios that may arise during use or inspection of a new boat:

1. Defect found by the dealer who just opened a box with a brand new boat.

2. Defect found by customer who has just received and inspected a new boat.

3. Defect may develop later on, during the lifetime of the product.

4. Damage that occurred during shipping of the product from dealer to the customer.

Defects are divided into 3 categories:

1. Cosmetic defects that do not affect boat integrity or functionality. Some examples of cosmetic defects would be: small scuffs, dirt marks, scratches, pin holes, small paint resin bubbling on wooden parts, a little bit of missing glue, etc.

2. Structural defects that do may affect the boat's safety, integrity and/or functionality. An example of a structural defect would be: an open seam in the air chamber that allows air to escape, a deep scuff or cut longer then 1”, a crack in the transom or an unglued transom holders, PVC fabric becoming seriously sticky over time, etc.

3. Shipping defects, such as a crack in a pump hose or ding in oar handle, are handled by an initiation insurance claim toward corresponding shipping carrier. In case a defect is discovered by a dealer who just opened a box with brand new merchandise, the following guidelines are recommended:

- A high resolution/quality image of the defect must be emailed to in order to evaluate nature of the problem. Pictures should be clear and in good resolution. No cell phone pictures will be accepted. We will forward images of the assumed defect to our supplier and evaluate the extent of the damage based on provided images.

- If the defect is considered to be small and can be easily repaired by dealer, it is the dealer's responsibility to do so. Example of such repairs would be; applying up to 4” diameter patch to cover a scuff or puncture, applying small amount of glue if it missing, cleaning dirt marks and/or paint, sanding and re-applying gray paint resin on wooden scuffs up to 10” sq inch area. Additional repair materials will be provided upon dealer request.

- In case of necessary repair to remedy manufacturer defect, such as patch for example, will decrease re-sale value of the merchandise, per our discretion, we will provide appropriate credit toward future order, or provide free accessories to compensate for such amortization in value.

- If the extent of the defect is large, such as an open seam, cracked transom, etc, and/or beyond the dealer's ability to repair, the merchandise will be replaced with a next order, taking in account that submitted pictures clearly display the nature of the manufacturer defect. In such case, dealer may keep the merchandise to fix and resell it at a lower price. In case of defect discovered by customer, dealer may choose to interact with the customer directly or to forward the customer to us for all after-sale support and questions. Below guidelines describing warranty coverage procedures in cases that the dealer prefers to provide direct after-sale customer warranty support.

These are the same guidelines that we are successfully following in our after-sale warranty support with our own customers:

1. A high resolution/quality image of the defect must be taken by the customer and forwarded to us by the dealer, in order to evaluate the nature of the problem. 3. In cases that the warranty repair is small, such as applying drop of glue or placing a small patch, it can be done by the customer, and if the customer is adamant about receiving reimbursement for his efforts, we might provide some free accessories, credit toward accessory orders, or price adjustment re-imbursement on a case-by-case basis and depending on a nature of the problem.

4. If the extent of the defect is large, such as open seam in a boat hull, cracked transom, etc, faded sticky PVC fabric and/or beyond the dealer's ability to repair, merchandise will be replaced with the next order, taking in account that submitted pictures clearly display nature of such manufacturer defect. Dealer may decide to replace from his own stock, or request replacement from us if dealer does not have same item in stock.

5. In cases in which the dealer replaces merchandise from his own stock, the dealer may keep the defective product, repair and re-sell it at a lower price. Full credit for replaced merchandise will be given toward the dealer's next future order.

6. If the dealer decides not to place any more orders with us, then as per our warranty policy, the item has to be sent back to us for repairs or replacement with all shipping costs pre-paid. In cases when defects are discovered during the product warranty period, the customer may send the boat back to us or dealer for repair/exchange taking that associated shipping charges are covered by the customer. In the very rare occasion that the customer received brand new merchandise, used it no longer then 1 week before he discovered a serious defect that required product replacement, all shipping charges will be covered by the dealer (if the dealer plans to keep the returned product for repair and resale at lower price). Full credit will be given toward the dealer's next order. However, if the dealer does not plan to place any future orders, then the defective product has to be sent by the customer, directly to us for replacement. In these cases, we will handle all associated shipping charges within the Continental US. International dealers located outside of the US , are responsible for ALL associated shipping surcharges and custom duties/taxes.
